Not everyone is cut out for girls ministry. It can be tempting to give an open invitation to the women in your church in order to find volunteers, especially when you need help, but doing so you may cause more difficulties and work for you in the long run.
When you’re looking for girls ministry volunteers, look for someone who will:
Share God’s Word
It probably doesn’t come as a shock to you that students are dealing with so many issues that are heavily influenced by the culture. The girls in your ministry do not need another opinion, they need the truth that is found in God’s Word. The truth is not always easy. When you are searching for girls ministry volunteers, look for women who are not tempted to shy away from it. God’s Word is the only thing that can truly transform a girl’s heart.
Create a safe place
Find someone who will not be a gossip or become judgemental. Create a safe environment for your students to ask difficult questions. You and your volunteers will not know all the answers. Find people who will offer to explore Scripture with girls and you will foster relationships that build trust and help girls learn to seek God’s Word in difficult situations.
Be an Encourager
Walking alongside a girl as she learns about Christ’s love for her is an incredible blessing. We all need someone who can remind us that God has chosen us and called us to His purpose. Chance are, there’s been someone who has poured into your life and pointed you to Christ during formative times. Help connect girls to other young women and help foster relationships between girls and their moms.
