If you joined us on the blog yesterday, you are in for a treat because our friend Brock Gill is back today with another Vlog (“Video Blog” – see what just happened there?!). Today’s blog is all about drawing out the potential in your students. As a primer to Brock’s message I’ll offer you one example from my own ministry.
Each new school year, as most of you probably do, we had a Fall Kickoff. This particular time we had a well-known artist who performed a concert for our kids while weaving his testimony all throughout his concert. It was phenomenal and we saw tons of students respond to him! At the end of the night I did what any great host would do and took him out for some Mexican food! In the middle of our conversation my guest stopped cold and asked me if he could share something that he felt God laying on his heart to say to me. Of course I obliged and the words that came from his mouth profoundly changed the trajectory of my ministry. His words were simple, “Give your students another chance.” My friend then elaborated that he felt like God wanted him to tell me that I needed to look for ways to plug my students into leadership in my ministry. The message was indeed from the Lord as I had steered away from student leadership after several struggles and had enlisted adults to care for nearly every aspect of our ministry.
Looking back, I can see the impact that flowed from that simple charge. The number of students who have realized a call to ministry through opportunities in their student ministry is incredible!
Brock’s message today is an encouragement to realize and draw out the potential in the lives of your students! Be creative and open up avenues for your students to be mobilized in ministry and hone the gifts that God has given them.
In exploring this, I would encourage you this way – pay attention to men like Brock Gill. He is obviously a man who has found a way to use his unique spiritual giftings to bring the gospel to the world. If you want help in learning how to do this in your ministry, talk to Brock! Invite him to come to your church! Let him do his thing and your ministry will be blessed as a result, but make sure to spend time with him as well so you can learn from a man who lives well before the Lord.
Brock’s booking information can be found in the links under the video. Enjoy!!
